Nearly one year ago, Pavel Datsyuk announced that he was leaving the Detroit Red Wings to return home to play hockey in Russia. Now, Datsyuk seems to be leaving the door open to a return to the Wings.

During a recent interview, Datsyuk made some interesting comments regarding a return to the NHL:

“There’s no question I won’t look into any potential NHL deals but only with Detroit. But now I’m in SKA and I’m happy.”

Now, that’s not exactly an announcement he is returning, but it certainly seems like he has an itch to return to the NHL.

Datsyuk also weighed in on the Red Wings missing the playoffs for the first time in 25 years.

“Quite truly I think…it’s good the Red Wings did not make the playoffs. Every year there were talks about making it or not. And it’s a great responsibility to make,” he said.

Datsyuk, who is now 38-years-old, scored 12 goals and had 20 assists in 44 games with St. Petersburg SKA of the Kontinental Hockey League.

In 14 seasons with the Red Wings, Datsyuk scored 314 goals and dished out 604 assists while making nine All-Star teams.

What do you think, Nation? Would you like to see Datsyuk return to Detroit?

  1. Here you go!
Let’s say the Caps are disillusioned with Ovi…
    First line: Larkin, Zetterberg Ovi
    Second line: Athanasiou, Dats, Mantha
    Third line: Nyquist, Tatar, Abdelkader
    Fourth iine: Helm, Nielsen, Sheahan

    I’m just dreaming a bit here….

    • Huge dream. A.) How in the hell would we acquire Ovi without giving up any of the players listed on your dream roster? B.) Your third line doesn’t have a center. C.) Your 4th line is made up entirely of centers. D.) If you start giving AA and Mantha more ice time than Nyquist and Tatar you are going to have some pissed off veterans on your hands. E.) Cap space problems

  2. I would give anything to have Pavs back. His vision and play-making ability on the ice is unparalleled. Even at his age, he could still play a key role in creating scoring opportunities for this team.
