Justin Verlander allowed just one run over seven innings, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers bats cooled off and they dropped game two of the series to the Royals, 1-0. Kansas
City rookie Eric Skoglund was sensational in his first major league start, going 6.2 innings and allowing just two hits and no runs. The Royals mustered the game’s only run in the bottom of the 6th on an Eric Hosmer single scoring Alcides Escobar.
The Tigers were shut out for the third time in ten games, after getting blanked by the Astros (1 hit) and the White Sox (4 hits) in the last week and a half. What is more surprising is the fact that the Tigers scored 10 runs in game one of this series, only to be shut out in game two.

Tomorrow’s rubber match between the Tigers and Royals begins at 8:15 PM EST at Kauffman Stadium. The series finale features two starting pitchers with ERAs above 4.40 as the Tigers send Matthew Boyd to the mound to face the Royals Ian Kennedy. Boyd is 0-4 in the month of May with a 6.92 ERA and is facing a possible demotion if he can’t figure out his command issues.
