WATCH: Mr. Met gives Mets fans the finger, no longer allowed to be Mr. Met

It’s not easy being a New York Mets fan right now. The team is 23-28 and they sit 9.5 games back in their division behind the Washington Nationals. Unless they beat up on the weak NL East Division as the dog days of summer approach, they will inevitably miss the playoffs for the second straight season. Basically, they have enough to worry about on the field as is.

But when it rains, it pours, and this thunderstorm comes in the form of the mascot, Mr. Met. During last night’s 7-1 loss against the Brewers, Mr. Met was videotaped walking down the tunnel presumably towards a cold shower to wash away the woes of last night’s loss. He was being heckled by fans and turned around and gave the finger to the hecklers (side note: Mr. Met only has four fingers so which finger he gave is still being determined)

Bad move. The video instantly went viral and the Mets organization was forced to deal with the repercussions of Mr. Met’s actions.

Cover your eyes for this next sentence kids. We all know mascots are not always the same person night in and night out. Having dabbled in the mascot game myself, I know there’s a handful of people who sport the costume throughout the season. Unfortunately, the individual in Mr. Met last night will no longer be allowed to perform as Mr. Met after the finger incident.

Except I’m going to ‘stay woke’ on this one and say that they actually will allow this person to continue to be Mr. Met, because who actually knows the difference? It’s not like anyone can take a peek inside the costume to make sure it’s not the same guy. On top of that, who wants to sit and hold interviews for another Mr. Met while in the middle of the season?

Some advice to Mr. Met moving forward. Your team is having a rough season and this isn’t going to be the last time your fans heckle you. But no one can see what is going on inside the costume, so next time, just mouth “F-U” silently in the costume like every other mascot does and save the fingers for the remote when you are watching playoff baseball in October instead of playing in it.
