The Tigers picked up right where they left off last night playing long-ball in the second inning when Nicholas Castellanos and Alex Presley went back-to-back giving the Tigers a quick 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, the bats continued to roll, putting a four-spot on the box score aided by a two-run home run by Alex Avila. Justin Upton got in on all the action with a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Tigers are now 16-3 on the season when hitting two or more home runs.

Jordan Zimmermann was solid today, finally tweaking his slider — using it 36.3 % today — to the point that it was very effective. It is a good to see Zim have a six-inning one run outing, giving him something to build on in the following days. Zimmermann had White Sox hitters off balanced and making soft contact all game long and it bodes well if the Tigers can get Zim on a roll.

Looking Ahead:

Tomorrow the Tigers will look to sweep the Chicago White Sox behind their perennial ace, Justin Verlander.  If the Tigers can get the sweep they’ll jump back to .500 and seven the season series with the White Sox at 6-6; also they have trimmed the minus-20 run differential with the White Sox to just minus-1 in two games. A trend they hope to continue.
