If you’re a baseball fan, you’ve heard the term “light tower power” when describing the power potential of some true sluggers. Very rarely, if ever, do players actually ever hit a ball up into the light towers.
But one minor league player decided to channel his inner Roy Hobbs in a home run derby. Eloy Jimenez, the No. 1 prospect in the Chicago Cubs’ system, participated in the Carolina League (Double-A) Home Run Derby on Monday and absolutely launched one to deep left, knocking out a light.
Wait for it….. wait for it…..

Below is a video of the entire second round by Jimenez in the Derby. Despite winning the Internet, he did not win the event. The 20-year-old out of the Dominican Republic is regarded as a top-10 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He stands 6-4, 205 pounds and is already drawing some comparisons to big-bodied Marlins’ slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

Who did it better? Jimenez or Hobbs?
