One of the bright spots for the Detroit Tigers this season has been the play of Alex Avila. His stat line of .315 BA, .431 OBP, .586 SLG, 11 HR, and 28 RBI is incredible. All this in 56 games played and it has the heads of contending teams turning.

According to Jon Paul Morosi at MLB.com, the Chicago Cubs and the Toronto Blue Jays are looking at Avila to help push them over the top in their playoff hopes.

Alex Avila has been the Tigers’ best hitter this season, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Not even Detroit’s general manager — Al Avila, Alex’s father — could have expected that when the younger Avila signed a one-year, $2 million deal as a free agent last winter. But now Avila is on the radar of teams looking for help behind the plate, including the Cubs and Blue Jays.”

Avila has to be looking attractive to these clubs in many ways. He’s a veteran with experience and knows how to work with a pitcher to implement a pitching strategy. Avila can also play first base if needed. Quite an acquisition for a contending team.
