According to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com, the Detroit Tigers have agreed to a $1 million deal with the No. 23 ranked international prospect, SS Alvaro Gonzalez out of Venezuela.
Gonzalez, who is still only 16-years-old, would start in the Tigers minor league system when he officially signs. (The Tigers have not yet confirmed this move)

Known for his good hands and strong arm, Gonzalez is one of the best all-around prospects from Venezuela in this year’s class.
While he has the skill set and strength to move to third base, there’s a belief that the teenager will stick at shortstop because of his athleticism, solid defensive actions and reliable glove. He’s also known for his good footwork and ability to make the routine and extraordinary plays.
The switch-hitting Gonzalez makes hard contact from both sides of the plate and has shown good bat speed and some power at the plate. Like most prospects his age, Gonzalez’s hitting mechanics will improve once he signs with a team and enters the club’s academy, but he has already shown the potential to hit for average.
Gonzalez, who trains with Henderson Martinez of Valencia, Venezuela, has been compared to younger version of former Major League shortstop Alex Gonzalez. The Tigers are the favorite to sign the teenage shortstop.
