As the Detroit Tigers continue what has been an extremely disappointing season up to this point, the trade talks have really started to heat up.

One Tiger who has been squarely in the news of late when it comes to trade talks is none other than Justin Verlander. Despite struggling after a brilliant 2016 season, Verlander has been mentioned in potential trades involving the Cubs and Dodgers, just to name a couple.

But in order for the Tigers to deal the former American League MVP, Verlander would have to waive his no-trade clause that allows him to nix any move involving him.

Prior to Wednesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, JV reminded everyone exactly who has the power when it comes to him being traded.

From Detroit Free Press:

“Obviously I see it and hear it,” he said. “That’s out of my control and if it does come to that point then it’s also in my control.” – Justin Verlander

Before the start of the 2016 season, Verlander said he would like to win a World Series with the Tigers but noted that he was too old to go through a rebuild. When he was asked on Wednesday about whether or not he wanted to stay in Detroit, he was noncommittal.

“It’s safe to say whatever you want because it’s all speculation at this point,” Verlander said. “So I can’t answer that question, honestly. I think there’s so many different things that would need to be discussed and thought about, it’s almost too much to think about right now. If I started thinking about all of those possibilities, that could become overwhelming, so I’m not.”
