Playing catcher at any level of baseball is not an easy job to do. Not only do you have to crouch down over 100 times every game, but you are certain to take foul balls off just about every single part of your body, including your head.

If you have followed Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila throughout his Major League career, you know he has taken a beating behind the plate. On Wednesday, against the San Francisco Giants, that beating continued as Avila was hit in the mask once again.

With Avila having an extensive history of concussions, it was no surprise to see Tigers trainer Kevin Rand and manager Brad Ausmus come to his attention on the field. That’s when Rand began administering a concussion test to see if Avila could continue on but Ausmus also chimed in with a question of his own.

From MLive:

“Kevin was asking him questions like, ‘What day is it? Who won the game yesterday?'” Ausmus said. “And then I said, ‘How are you related to the GM?’ I think that’s when he laughed.”

Avila, of course, happens to be the son of Tiger general manager Al Avila, so the question by Ausmus did make sense.

Alex got the questions correct and continued on in the game.
