During its 17 year history, Comerica Park has hosted both baseball and hockey, as well as plenty of concerts. Now, it’s soccer’s turn to take the field.

AS Roma and Paris Saint-Germain F.C. will face off in the 2017 International Champions Cup, with thousands expected to be in attendance. As part of the venue’s transformation,  the pitcher’s mound, bases and home plate were removed, and 15 truckloads of sod were placed to cover the dirt base paths.

Earlier this year, Detroit Tigers and Red Wings owner Chris Ilitch shared his admiration for the work that was put in to bring the international match to Detroit.

“Having Paris and Roma in Detroit puts our community on a worldwide television audience,” he said. “Having Paris and Roma in Detroit puts our community on a worldwide stage and provides just a taste of the incredible variety of world-class sports and entertainment in The District Detroit.”

The Tigers are back at Comerica Park on Monday, and the crews are expected to transform the field back to the familiar baseball diamond on Saturday.
