Michigan may be heading into the 2017 football season with quite a few fresh faces in the starting lineup but thanks to Jim Harbaugh and his staff’s recruiting success, the cupboard is not bare.

That recruiting success continued on Saturday when the Wolverines landed 5-star defensive end Stephen Herron Jr. out of Louisville, Kentucky. Herron Jr. announced his intentions to play for Michigan via his Twitter account.

According to 247Sports.com, Herron is the No. 4 ranked defensive end in the Class of 2019 and the No. 34 ranked player overall in that class. At 6-foot-3, 235 lbs, you can be sure that Herron Jr. will put on some size before heading to the Maize and Blue.

From 247 Sports:

“The family factor,” Herron told 247Sports of what sealed the deal. “I’m all about relationships. To be here with other recruits, I love this place, we started talking about all the family stuff and I’ve come to notice Michigan is the best combination of academics and football.”

The talented defensive end also praised Michigan defensive coordinator, Don Brown.

“Coach Brown there’s not much to say about him other than I think he’s the best defensive coordinator there is. He had great defenses at Boston College and now he’s doing it here. Coach Mattison he reminds me a lot of a father figure in college. He really takes care of his players a lot. Everyone is chilling at the barbecue and I said name one bad thing about Coach Mattison and the players said I can’t say one bad thing about Coach Mattison.”
