According to reports, one of the most important defensive players on the Detroit Lions has agreed to an extension.

On Sunday, safety Glover Quin signed a two-year extension that will keep him in Detroit through the 2019 season.

From DetroitLions.com:

“Glover is one of our team leaders, and throughout his career has been a consummate professional on and off the field,” Lions Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Quinn said.  “We are thrilled that he will be a Lion for the next three seasons.

“I also want to thank Glover and his representatives for their work in making this contract extension a reality.”

Quin was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in 2009 and played there four seasons before heading to the Lions prior to the 2013 season. Since coming to Detroit, Quin has emerged not only as one of the Lions best defensive players but as one of the leaders on the team. He has not missed a single game in a Lions uniform and currently has a streak of 116 consecutive games started going, which began while playing with the Texans.

At 31-years-old, Quin was heading into the final year of his contract before agreeing to the two-year extension with the Lions.

In 2014, Quin led the entire NFL with seven interceptions and he was selected to the NFL Pro Bowl for the first and only time in his 8-year career. Since coming into the league, he has a total of 21 interceptions and six forced fumbles.
