While the Detroit Red Wings continue to play the waiting game with forward Andreas Athanasiou, they’ve taken steps to try and replace the offense they could potentially be losing should the speedy forward bolt to the KHL.
Nine-year NHL veteran P.A. Parenteau has signed a professional tryout (PTO) agreement with the club. Should he make the final roster, Detroit would be Parenteau’s eighth team. In 67 games split between the New Jersey Devils and Nashville Predators last season, Parenteau scored 13 goals along with 15 assists. He played in five playoff games for the Predators, but had no points.
In addition to Parenteau, the Red Wings announced earlier this week that they would be signing Detroit native and veteran of 502 NHL games David Booth to a PTO.
Parenteau amassed a career best 67 points in 80 games while a member of the New York Islanders during the 2011-12 NHL season. He’s also played with the Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and New York Rangers.
In 491 career games, Parenteau has scored 114 goals and amassed 182 assists with a -45 plus/minus rating.
Booth has suited up for three teams in his NHL career, most recently the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2014-15 NHL season. His best offensive output came while a member of the Florida Panthers in 2008-09, scoring 31 goals with 29 assists. He’s scored 120 career goals. He played collegiate hockey at Michigan State and has played in the KHL the past two seasons.
Red Wings training camp begins September 15. They’ll begin the pre-season on September 18 against Boston, and play their first pre-season game at Little Caesars Arena on September 23.
