The 2017 NFL season kicks off on Thursday night when the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots square off against the Kansas City Chiefs.

It’s the time of year where every fan base in America (well, almost any) believes their team has at least a chance of shocking the world and winning it all.

Well, we hate to burst the bubble for a few teams and their fans, but according to FiveThirtyEight, there are seven teams in the league that has less than a 1% chance of bringing Super Bowl back to their fans.

Luckily, for the Detroit Lions and their fan base, they are not one of those seven teams.

Let’s celebrate!

Not so fast!

FiveThirtyEight gives the Lions only a 2% chance of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in team history. As you can see on the chart below, Tom Brady and the Patriots have by far the best shot at winning their second straight Super Bowl as they are listed at 18%. The next closest team, according to FiveThirtyEight, is the defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons who have a 9% chance of getting revenge for their debacle in the most recent Super Bowl.

Though the Lions do not seem to have much of a shot at winning it all, they do have a 21% chance of winning the NFC North and a 33% chance of making the playoffs for a second consecutive season. As you can see, the Green Bay Packers have the best chance of taking home another North crown as they are listed at 50%.

What do you think, Nation? Are these percentages pretty accurate? Which teams do you think will shock the world?
