On Sunday, the Detroit Lions defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 of the NFL Season.

Though there were a number of players who stood out for the Lions, it was kicker Matt Prater who earned the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week award for his outstanding performance against the Cardinals.

Not only did Prater prove once again that he has one of the strongest legs in the league by drilling a 58-yard field goal, but he also stepped up and took over the punting duties when Kasey Redfern went down with an injury. Prater was called upon to punt four times and though his average was only 34.8 yards, he got the job done.

Since joining the Detroit Lions in 2014, Prater has been money in the bank on his long-distance field goal attempts, converting 16 of 19 from 50 yards out or more. Last season, he was 7 for 7 on field goals of 50 yards or more including a long of 58 yards.

On December 8, 2013, while a member of the Denver Broncos, Prater set the NFL record by kicking a 64-yard field goal. That record still stands.
