WHAT?!? Controversial replay call costs Detroit Lions a win [VIDEO]

The Detroit Lions fought all the way back today against the Atlanta Falcons. Matthew Stafford led the offense all the way down the field during the last moments of the 4th quarter. The team seemed poised for another comeback win as they had put themselves in position A at the 1-yard line. Things looked very good, almost expected, when Stafford connected with Golden Tate for the go-ahead touchdown with 8 seconds left on the clock.

Sadly, upon video review, the play was overturned. The replay officials (ignoring the possible illegal contact from #34 for the Falcons while the ball was in the air) ruled that Tate’s knee was down and that he was touched before the ball crossed the goal line. Because the Lions were out timeouts, there is a 10-second runoff on the game clock. With only 8 seconds remaining, the game ended on that play.

Some Lions fans took to Twitter to find fault with the NFL’s ruling on where exactly Tate was down on the play.

Others saw what I saw on the play: pass interference/illegal contact on the Falcons.

Matthew Stafford, the comeback king, finished 25/45 for 264 yards passing on the day. Likewise, Golden Tate ended up with 7 catches for a total of 58 yards receiving. It was literally inches (and a video review made from comfortable NFL officiating studios) that made the difference on this day.

You make the call, Lions fans? Were the Lions robbed by the officials again? Or, is just this another example of Detroit finding a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?
