On October 7th, Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans will invade “The Big House” with the hopes handing Michigan their first loss of the season.

If they want to accomplish that goal the Spartans will have to pull off quite the upset, at least according to the oddsmakers. According to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, the Wolverines are currently listed as a 17.5 point favorite at home against Michigan State.

Michigan, who is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation according to the Associated Press, will be coming off a bye week after defeating Florida, Cincinnati, Air Force, and Purdue in their first four games of the season.

The Spartans, on the other hand, are coming off a 38-18 loss at home against Notre Dame and they still have to play Iowa this weekend before squaring off against their biggest rival.

If you are the betting type, you may be interested to know that Michigan State has covered the spread against Michigan in their last 10 meetings. In fact, the last time the Wolverines covered against the Spartans was in 2006 when they were a 16.5 point favorite and won 31-13.

The big story to watch heading into this epic matchup will be who starts at quarterback for Michigan. This past week, starting quarterback Wilton Speight went down with injury and senior John O’Korn filled in and looked like the better signal-caller against Purdue. At the time of this article, the extent of Speight’s injury is unknown and even if he is good to go, head coach Jim Harbaugh will have a very important decision to make before MSU comes to Ann Arbor.
