Last night, we reported that the Detroit Lions would likely be signing an offensive lineman on Tuesday.

Well, they made that official this morning by announcing that they have signed guard Tim Lelito out of Grand Valley State University. In a corresponding move, they placed Joe Dahl on the Reserved-Injured list.

Dahl was limited in practice last week with a lower leg injury and was listed as inactive for the Lions game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Via last night’s report:

Lelito, who was born in Rochester, and played his high school ball at St. Clair, originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2013 and remained there until he was cut following the 2016 season. Though he was mostly a backup, Lelito did start 24 out of 63 games in his four seasons with the Saints, blocking for future Hall of Fame quarterback, Drew Brees.

Lions general manager Bob Quinn has had his eye on Lelito for some time now and even took the time to work Lelito out this past March.

With the Lions being short-handed on the offensive line, Lelito could be forced into game action as early as this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. That, of course, will all depend on whether or not Swanson can give it a go or if he will have to miss more time.

The injury bug has not been kind to the Detroit Lions so far this season. First, they found out that they would be without their starting left tackle, Taylor Decker for an extended period of time and then in the preseason, DE Kerry Hyder suffered an Achilles injury which will cause him to miss the remainder of the season.

General manager Bob Quinn has stressed the importance of building depth on his roster. That depth will certainly be tested as the Lions move through the 2017 season.
