The Detroit Lions could drive any sane being to the brink. A legendary history of brutal failure and abhorrent injustices will do that. Sunday’s controversial loss to the Atlanta Falcons is just a footnote in the lengthy list of unbelievable circumstances crushing the Lions and their fans. That footnote, however, is one a certain Traverse City man will never forget.
According to Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Giddis, the 23-year-old Traverse City man said he was so upset about the last-second loss he rolled his car and crashed into a nearby power pole.
The incident occurred at 4:19 p.m. on Sept. 24 when he attempted to turn onto Eikey Road from Three Mile Road in East Bay Township.
The man, who registered a blood-alcohol level of .18 more than twice the limit for driving, was taken to Munson Medical Center for a blood draw before being lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail.
“I don’t think he went out trying to crash his car,” Giddis said. “He was just amped up and went for a drive. Emotions were still high because of outcome and he rolled his car taking a corner too fast.”
He suffered only minor injuries in the crash and no one else was involved, Giddis said. He is being charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
To recap.
The Lions continued futility and bad breaks played a role in prompting a very drunk man going for an ill-advised drive to clear his mind. Naturally, he flipped his car turning a corner because *breaking news* drunk men are not dexterous and do not make good drivers.
His tally for the day included a broken heart, totaled car, minor injuries, drunk driving charges, and likely irreparable harm to his bank account and criminal record.
And you thought your Sunday was bad?
