The Detroit Lions are fresh off a Week 4 victory over their NFC rival from Minnesota. Sitting at 3-1, they’re now preparing to take on the Carolina Panthers (also 3-1) in Week 5 from Ford Field.
A few key players were listed as non-participants in the first two days of practice. Rookie wide receiver Kenny Golladay did not practice for a second straight week and linebacker Paul Worrilow was also absent.
If Golladay is not able to play again this week, it will be a huge blow to the Lions offense. He was missed last week, and it showed as the offense was only able to put up 14 points against the Vikings; Detroit was fortunate that their defense led the way and overshadowed their offensive shortage. If Golladay is able to play against the Panthers, he’ll provide a huge red zone and short yardage threat for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Worrilow, who has six solo tackles this season, is a key player on the Lions defensive corps. While he may not be the flashiest of players, he still provides a solid role presence. Should he be unable to go on Sunday, then backup linebacker Steve Longa will have to step up and start in his place. Longa, who has four solo tackles and one assisted tackle, wouldn’t be a poor replacement for Worrilow as they share similar stats this season.
