The Vegas Golden Knights are the first NHL expansion franchise to start their season with wins in their first three games, and a former Detroit Red Wings forward had a hand in ensuring the third victory started off on the right foot.

Tomas Nosek was selected by Vegas after being exposed by the Red Wings during this summer’s expansion draft. He had played in 17 career games with the Red Wings beforehand, with 11 of them coming last year. He had previously scored his first NHL goal prior to being selected by Vegas.

Just minutes into the Golden Knights’ first ever home opener, Nosek beat Arizona Coyotes goaltender Antti Raanta with a quick wrist shot, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Vegas would go on to win the game and improve to a perfect 3-0-0.

The Red Wings will play the Golden Knights in Las Vegas on Friday night at 10:30 EST.
