When the Detroit Tigers take the field in 2018, they will do so with a lineup that looks much different than the one they ran out in 2017. But the lineup is not the only thing that will have a new look for the Tigers.

With the announcement that Brad Ausmus will not be returning for the 2018 campaign, general manager Al Avila will be charged with the task to hire the Tigers next manager.

According to John Perrotto of FanRag Sports, a former MLB manager has emerged as a favorite to land the job.

That favorite is none other than current Florida Marlins third base coach and former Atlanta Braves skipper, Fredi Gonzalez.

From FanRag Sports:

“Fredi Gonzalez is considered the favorite to become the Detroit Tigers’ next manager.

Gonzalez has ties to Tigers general manager Al Avila going all way back to 1992 when Gonzalez managed then-Miami Marlins’ short-season Class A Erie farm club and Avila was the expansion franchise’s assistant direction of Latin American operations.”

Gonzalez interviewed with the Tigers earlier in the month and has been considered an option by many from the get-go.

Perrotto also noted that former Tiger Gabe Kapler could also still be on the Tigers radar.
