It’s already been a season full of ups and downs for the University of Michigan football team. They opened the season ranked in the top ten, and won a huge game to start the season against Florida. Quarterback Wilton Speight regained quickly regained his form from last season (which is not exactly a good thing), however, and questions began bouncing around Ann Arbor. After Speight went down with an injury, John O’Korn took over the duties as signal caller, and showed potential as the incumbent starter. That potential has not been lived up to however, and following a loss to Michigan State and an overtime victory against Indiana, the questions are now flying around Ann Arbor at an alarming rate.

Despite all this, there have been plenty of bright spots, some unexpected, on the team this season. One of those bright spots has been the play of linebacker Devin Bush. Today, news has broken that solidifies Bush as one of those bright spots.

Bush has recorded 48 tackles for the season, including six tackles for loss. He has also picked up five sacks, and has defended five passes. His best performance came when the Wolverines played against the Air Force Falcons, when he recorded 11 tackles and a sack.

In addition to being added to the All-American team watch list, Bush has also been added to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, which is awarded to the best defensive player in the country.

The Wolverines are currently preparing for their match-up this weekend, when they travel to State College, Pennsylvania for a tilt with the second-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. After struggling to hold on for a victory last weekend, the Wolverines again dropped in the AP Poll, now checking in at #19.

In a season that has not exactly lived up to expectations, this is most definitely a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines.

  1. Preseason National Champs, September Heisman, and now a mid season All American. Where do they find the space for all these trophies.
