The Detroit Lions have dropped two-straight games to fall to 3-3 on the season and there is no question about it that they need all the help they can get as they prepare to host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.

As expected, the Lions have released punter Jeff Locke to make room for Sam Martin, who has yet to play this season.

Martin, who is in his fifth season with the Lions, averaged 48.5 yards per punt in 2016 and was a great special teams weapon.

Locke certainly deserves some major props for the job he did punting for the Lions while Martin recovered from his injury. In five games this season, Locke averaged a career-best 45.3 yards per punt.

Hopefully, the Lions can get some more good news regarding some of their starters as the week goes on.

Detroit Lions make multiple roster moves in advance of SNF matchup vs. Steelers

This coming weekend, the Detroit Lions will be looking to get back in the win column when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.

In preparation for the game, the Lions have made a couple of roster moves, including activating defensive tackle Khyri Thornton from the Exempt/Commissioner list and waiving quarterback Brad Kaaya.

Thornton, who is 27, is coming off a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. In 2016, Thornton played in 13 games for the Lions (6 starts) and recorded 14 tackles and one sack. He is certainly a welcome addition to the defense, especially considering that Haloti Ngata is done for the season.
