TD Celebrations: Will the No. 2 Detroit Lions outperform the No. 1 Pittsburgh Steelers?

On Sunday night, when the Detroit Lions host the Pittsburgh Steelers, two teams noted for their end zone celebrations will be trying to one-up each other when they score touchdowns. No. 1 and No.2, of course, would be referring to the best celebration teams in football.

Wide receiver Golden Tate seems to head up the “celebration committee” for the Lions. In fact, Tate’s celebrations are so good that even head coach Jim Caldwell loves them.

From Detroit Free Press:

“His grandson every night goes out and plays basketball or throws the football before he goes to bed, that’s just his thing,” Tate said. “And he showed me a video of his grandson catching a touchdown, simulating a touchdown, running up to the camera and blowing a kiss to the camera, something I did last year against the Rams.

“And then after the bye, he sent me a text message of the video and I told him, I sent him a message back saying, ‘Hey Coach, make sure you tell your grandson don’t try this latest celebration unless you’re on a trampoline or in bed.’ And sure enough he tells me, ‘Yeah, he’s been in the bed doing that same People’s Elbow every night.'”

In case you missed it, here is the ‘People’s Elbow’ celebration that Tate pulled off this season.

But Tate has not been the only Lion to get in on the TD celebration action. This one, from the preseason, includes Marvin Jones.

The Steelers are no slouches either when it comes to TD celebrations. This one, which happens to be one of my favorites, features JuJu Smith-Schuster and Le’Veon Bell playing a game of hide-and-seek.

Here is another good one from Smith-Schuster.

As you can see both of these teams have put some good effort into some fun celebrations since the league relaxed its end zone celebration policy.

From NFL.com

We saw a lot of interest in liberalizing and allowing the players a little more freedom to be able to express their joy, their individuality and frankly celebrate the game,” Goodell said. “So that’s what we think we’ve accomplished here. There will be an ongoing dialogue with a lot of parties to make sure that we implement it.

So on Sunday night, which team will come out with the newest latest and greatest? Besides the outcome of the game itself, I look forward to seeing which team will come out on top with their end zone celebrations. Can the Lions take over the Steelers place as the No. 1 ranked TD celebration team in football?
