Ever since former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson announced that he was retiring from football, there has been plenty of speculation about if and when he will return to the NFL.

Despite Johnson himself saying over and over again that he is finished with, the rumors of him potentially making a return have continued to surface from time to time.

In a recent report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions have been contacted by two teams about trading for the rights of Calvin Johnson.

But which teams could be in the mix if Johnson were to agree to return to the NFL?

First, let’s be clear on one thing. The chances of Calvin returning to the league with any team seem slim at best but if he were to come back, it would almost certainly be with a Super Bowl contender.

That being said, here is a list of three teams that could be interested in trading for the rights of Calvin Johnson if he had the itch to give football one last go. We highly doubt the Lions would trade Megatron to an NFC team, so you will notice that each of these 3 teams is from the AFC.

New England Patriots

If Calvin Johnson wants to return to the NFL, you can be assured that it will be with a team he feels can make a run at winning a Super Bowl. It’s safe to say the New England Patriots are at the top of that list. With Julian Edelman out of commission, you can bet that Tom Brady and company would welcome the services of Johnson, even if he is only a shell of his previous self.

Kansas City Chiefs

Some have been surprised that the Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the top teams in the NFL this season but they shouldn’t be. That being said, Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith could use another weapon to compliment tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Tyreek Hill in the passing game and Megatron could give them another red-zone target.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are rolling right now and they are considered by many to be the favorites to win the AFC this season. That being said, the Steelers could potentially be without receiver Martavis Bryant, who has already been ruled inactive this week against the Lions. Imagine an offense with Antonio Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Calvin Johnson!
