Justin Verlander is a World Champion!

The Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in Game 7 of the World Series and supporters of the Astros are not the only ones who are going to bed happy following the big win.

That’s because thousands and thousands of Detroit Tigers fans were also cheering on their American League counterpart, hoping that one of their own would get his first World Series title.

When Verlander was traded to the Astros just before the Major League Baseball trade deadline, there was a period of mourning for Tigers fans. After all, they had watched JV grow from a skinny rookie all the way into what he had become, which is arguably the greatest pitcher in team history. But after the loss had time to sink in, it was rather easy for many Tigers fans to start rooting for JV to do well with his new team, almost like he was still representing the Old English D.

Now, those who have continued to support Verlander, even after he was traded to Houston, have seen their guy win it all and it sure is a good feeling.

Following the win, Verlander was interviewed on the field by ESPN’s Buster Olney and he shared exactly what this World Series win means to him.

Sure, Tigers fans did not get to see one of their all-time greats win a title in a Detroit uniform, but sure seems to be the next best thing.

Congrats to Justin Verlander, and former Tiger Cameron Maybin on their World Championship!
