The 2017 Major League Baseball season is officially in the books as Justin Verlander and the Houston Astros won the World Series by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers four games to three.

Many Detroit Tigers fan paid close attention to the World Series this year as Verlander was trying to get the ring that he was unable to get during his time in the Motor City.

But whether you were rooting for JV or not, now it’s time to start looking at the offseason and towards Spring Training.

You can be sure that Tigers general manager Al Avila will be making quite a few roster moves before the start of the 2018 regular season and those offseason moves have already begun. On Thursday, the Tigers announced the following roster moves.

  • INF/OF Andrew Romine has been claimed off waivers by the Seattle Mariners.
  • RHP Jeff Ferrell and Outfielders Jim Adduci, Tyler Collins, and Alex Presley have been outrighted from the Major League roster.
  • The club option for RHP Anibal Sanchez has been declined, making him a free agent.

It is going to be extremely interesting to see exactly what Avila does this offseason as the Tigers are clearly in a rebuild mode. Will he bring back some former Tigers to help mold the young guys or will that be left up to the new manager Ron Gardenhire and his staff?

Time will tell.
