For those of you who have been following the Detroit Tigers since the early 1980’s or so, you most likely agree that Alan Trammell and Jack Morris are all Hall of Fame caliber players.
Yet, as things currently stand, neither of those legends are in the HOF.
But that could all change before long as both Trammell and Morris have been included on the Hall of Fame’s Modern Baseball ballot, which was released on Monday afternoon.

The Modern Baseball ballot includes players whose greatest impact came in 1970-87 and is part of the Expansion Era Committee, which was created to right some of the wrongs that have taken place over decades of Hall of Fame voting. voting.
Players’ cases will be presented to a 16-person committee, and 75% of the vote – or 12 votes – is required for induction. There are 10 players on the ballot. Committee members can vote for up to four candidates.
Unfortunately, former Tigers second baseman Lou Whitaker did not make the cut, despite having a career WAR of 74.9, which puts he well above the 69.4 average of the current second baseman in the Hall of Fame.
As noted in the Detroit Free Press, Trammell and Morris have the best chance of getting voted in by the committee.
In 2014, Morris earned 61.5% of the votes in his final year on the BBWAA, the highest percent of any of the three Tigers included on the Modern Baseball ballot. In comparison, Trammell earned 40.9% in 2016 and Whitaker had just 2.9% in 2001, his only year on the ballot. In order to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, an eligible player needs a minimum 75% of the vote.
The Modern Game committee will make their final decision during the Major League Baseball winter meetings which will take place Dec. 10-14, at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Florida.
