The Detroit Lions (5-4) battled for a tougher than imagined win over the Cleveland Browns (0-9) on Sunday afternoon. Despite being down by 10 early in the game, the Lions roared back to take a 17-10 lead into halftime. The Browns would go on to score 14 unanswered points in their first two drives of the third quarter to take a 24-17 lead over Detroit. Trailing yet again in this game, the Lions turned up the heat as they went on to score three straight touchdowns to seal a 38-24 win over the Browns. Here are three things we can take away from Detroit’s big win.

Matthew Stafford should be considered for MVP

Matthew Stafford continues to do it all for the Lions this season. In the game against the Browns, he threw for 249 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. He is always doing whatever it takes to make a good play and put Detroit in the best position to win the game. The guy does it all for Detroit and he is proving that he should be at least considered as an MVP candidate.

Golladay’s return improved the offense

Kenny Golladay, who hasn’t played a game since Sept. 24, was finally able to suit up and play this week and he made a huge impact. He caught two passes for 64 yards including a HUGE 50-yard catch and run to help set up a Theo Riddick touchdown. It is clear that Golladay’s presence on the field was what the offense needed. If he is able to stay healthy for the rest of the season, then he will become a big part of this Detroit offense.

The defense still needs work

Although the defense did force two turnovers against the Browns, they still have a lot of work to do. They allowed 201 rushing yards, which is completely unacceptable if they want teams to fear the defense. If the Lions truly want to be able to win the division and possibly a playoff game, then they have to improve their defense.
