Lions could be without key starter for second straight game

The Lions look like they may be playing “Da Bears” without one of their most feared defensive end. Ziggy Ansah missed another practice today with a lingering back injury that kept him out of last weeks game as well.

Unfortunately, we still know very little about the specifics of the injury as Jim Caldwell gave his typical response to injury,

“What you see on the report is what you see on the report”

Caldwell elaborated even more on the injury…

“You know, we just kind of go week to week and see what happens day to day,” Caldwell said. “We’ll see what happens, but the doctor’s kind of figure that out.”

Although we won’t get much out of Caldwell, there is a growing concern about the severity of this injury. Back injuries are always a bit of a mystery and hard to pinpoint the length of an absence.

Injuries have slowed Ansah since blowing up for 14.5 sacks in his 2015 season.  Ansah has four sacks, a forced fumble, and 16 total tackles on the year. Three of those sacks came in the second game vs a weak Giants Oline. Nonetheless, the Lions will miss Ansah’s presence on the field.

Rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky may not have to keep an eye out for Ansah but Anthony Zettel will be on his mind. Zettel has played well of late with a sack in each of the last two games and a team-leading six on the year.

Will the Lions be able to make the playoffs without Ansah or do they need him back on the field?
