Multiple players from the Michigan football program have recently announced decisions that they plan to leave the program via transfer. The team had two such casualties on Wednesday.
After news of backup quarterback Alex Malzone surfaced early in the day, wide receiver Maurice Ways is following suit.

Ways is set to graduate and will be eligible to play immediately in 2018 where ever he plays. The former 3-star from Franklin, Michigan and Detroit Country Day standout committed in the Brady Hoke era and redshirted as a freshman in 2014. He has seen minimal time during his three years with Michigan, just 24 games and seven receptions for 71 yards.
Heading into the 2016, Ways was virtually penciled it to be the Wolverines’ No. 3 receiver on the depth chart, behind only eventual NFL draft picks Amara Darboh and Jehu Chesson. However, a foot injury during spring practice of that year led to surgery for Ways. The recovery and rehabbing could very well have led to a dip in overall effectiveness, thus opening up opportunities for other wideouts on the roster such as Kekoa Crawford and Grant Perry, to name a couple.
The announcement on Instagram from Ways is just the latest soon-to-be-former Michigan player to transfer out of the program. It was first redshirt junior quarterback Wilton Speight grabbing the headlines on Sunday (11/26). It was also that same night when it was rumored to believe Alex Malzone was going to take the grad transfer route as well.
Wide receiver Drake Harris also revealed his decision to play his fifth and final year of eligibility elsewhere in 2018. Perhaps the most surprising transfer news in the last few days for Michigan was that from freshman offensive lineman JaRaymond Hall, who has been granted his scholarship release.
