HOLD THE PHONES! Michigan football player reported to be transferring is still ‘weighing his options’

It has certainly been a roller coaster of a week for the University of Michigan football program. It all began on Saturday when the Wolverines blew a 14-point lead over the Ohio State Buckeyes and ended up losing 31-20.

Then the transfer announcements started rolling in.

First, it was quarterback Wilton Speight who announced on Instagram that he was transferring from Michigan for his final year of eligibility. On Tuesday, news broke that WR/CB Drake Harris and OL Ja’Raymond Hall would also be playing elsewhere in 2018. Then on Wednesday, another QB, Alex Malzone and WR Maurice Ways both revealed they too were leaving the Michigan football program.

But one of those five players is still weighing his options.

Freshman offensive lineman Ja’Raymond Hall, after reading the reports that he had decided to transfer, took to Twitter on Wednesday to clear the air.

“I would like to thank everyone for the support, but I have made no decision on my future,” Hall wrote. “My coaches and I have been in constant communication and we share an understanding about my future that I feel comfortable with.”

According to The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, who initially reported that Hall had asked for and was granted his release, the freshman OL has been granted his release and does “have his release in hand.”

Though many fans (and Michigan haters) are freaking out about the recent transfer announcements, this is nothing new for Jim Harbaugh since he came to Michigan. From 2015-2016, a total of nine players (per Detroit Free Press) transferred from the program for one reason or another.

As far as players returning for a fifth year, Harbaugh said it has to be a mutual agreement.

“A fifth year is, it’s mutual,” Harbaugh said back in 2015. “When it comes to a fifth year, if you have a fifth year of eligibility, then it becomes ‘do you want to come back for a fifth year, and does the football team mutually want you to come back for a fifth year?'”
