INJURY REPORT: 3 Key Detroit Lions miss Thursday’s practice

Things don’t appear to be getting any better for the Detroit Lions this week. Yesterday, seven Lions’ missed practice, and today three key starters weren’t participating for the Lions in practice again.

Among those were running back Ameer Abdullah (neck), T.J. Lang (foot), and Travis Swanson (knee). This isn’t a good sign for a team that wants to start running the ball more effectively.

If Abdullah can’t go on Sunday, Theo Riddick will be most likely making the start for the Lions at the running back position. Riddick has ran the ball well lately when he’s been given the opportunity, running for 4.5 yards per carry since the bye week, which is the best on the team.

Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter doesn’t seem to be too concerned about that possibly becoming a reality.

From MLive:

“I think Theo’s doing a nice job, Cooter said. “We’ve seen improvement from him, he’s really working hard at it. And it is our job to evaluate all those guys and sort of figure out who should get what amount of plays in the game, and carries, and all that stuff, sort of how each guys game looks like. I would say that we got guys that are doing a good job, and we’re going to sort of try to let them do that good job maybe a couple more times.”

The Lions’ offensive line hasn’t exactly opened many holes for the run game either, and now the health of starters T.J. Lang and Travis Swanson is going to make that even more of an uphill battle. If neither of those guys can go at Baltimore, Graham Glasgow will start at center and the Lions will have to start backups at both guard spots.

That doesn’t sound like a good combination against a stout Ravens’ run defense.
