BREAKING: Detroit Red Wings announce trade with Buffalo Sabres

The Detroit Red Wings announced on Monday that they’d completed a trade with the Buffalo Sabres. After acquiring him earlier in this season, they’ve traded forward Scott Wilson away to the Buffalo Sabres for a 5th-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Detroit traded for Wilson earlier in the season by letting go of Riley Sheahan to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Wilson has played in 17 games for Detroit this season, with no points and a minus-1 rating (minus-3 on the season including time with Pittsburgh.)

The move doesn’t really add anything to the team, other than some salary cap space. If Ken Holland were smart, he’d look to shore up the Red Wings’ defense with whatever cap space we have, as the team is now sitting at a -16 goal differential through 27 games.

A mere whimper.

That’s all the Detroit Red Wings were able to muster during their farcical abomination of a showing Saturday night at Bell Centre in Montreal against the Canadiens. Montreal scored 10 goals in a seemingly effortless exercise of rubbing dirt in Detroit’s eyes and twisting their arm.

And the Red Wings didn’t even bother to say “uncle”. Maybe that would have taken too much effort. A team that is now a shadow of its former self was humiliated against the same opponent who scored six goals against them just a few nights prior in Detroit.
