It’s about damn time! The Modern Era Hall of Fame inductees were announced this evening and Tiger greats, Alan Trammell and Jack Morris, were among those selected for enshrinement.

It has been a long time coming for the former Tigers, each of whom helped bring Detroit a championship in 1984. Having been removed from consideration, after failing to qualify through normal ballots, Trammell and Morris’ inductions are the right call. Each of them worthy of a plaque on the walls of Cooperstown.
Jack Morris is a three-time World Series Champion, once the MVP of the World Series (1991 Twins), and a five-time All-Star. To be fair, Morris’ numbers don’t wow you: 3.90 career ERA, 254 wins, 186 losses, he tossed 3,824 innings and collected 2,478 strikeouts. But, his postseason heroics — two complete games in the 1984 World Series, named the MVP of the ’91 Series, and again winning it all the following year (and his last) with the Blue Jays in 1992 — all add up to a Hall of Fame plaque, as it should.
Alan Trammell has finally gotten his due as a Hall of Fame shortstop. For his career, he collected a 70.4 WAR, over 1,000 RBIs, was a four-time Gold Glover, thrice a Silver Slugger, and a six-time All-Star. Not to mention a World Series Champion, and World Series MVP. The injustice of keeping him off the ballot, and out of the Hall, have finally been amended.
So, from all of us here at Detroit Sports Nation, we want to send a hearty “CONGRATS” to two of the more well-deserving players to wear the Old English D on your Hall of Fame induction.
Now, if we can just get “Sweet” Lou Whitaker in!
