During the 2021 season, the Detroit Lions had one of the worst defenses in the NFL and the hope was that they would take a step forward in 2022. That has not happened, and to be honest, the defense has been even worse than it was a year ago. As the season has gone on the defense has continued to be an embarrassment, many have suggested that defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn be removed from his duties. Instead, earlier this week, it was announced that defensive backs coach Aubrey Pleasant was fired. Glenn worked very closely with Pleasant and he believes the Lions lost a “damn-good” coach.
What did Aaron Glenn say about the Lions firing Aubrey Pleasant?
On Thursday, Glenn spoke to the media and he explained how tough it has been for him personally to lose Aubrey Pleasant.
“It’s been a tough week for me personally, this defensive staff, this organization, so this team in general,” Glenn said. “Not only because of the way we played, but also because we lost a damn-good coach, a good friend of mine, who I brought on to do a job, and that’s unfortunate.”

Glenn added that the decision to move on from Pleasant was Dan Campbell's, though he did come to him beforehand.
“Dan made the decision, and I’m going to support that decision,” Glenn said. “That’s my job. He’s the boss, and whatever decision that he makes, it’s our responsibility to support and continue to move on. That’s what we’ll do as a staff and that’s what I’ll do as a coordinator.”
