Adrian Peterson believes he could have made NFL straight from high school

Detroit Lions running back Adrian Peterson will go down as one of the National Football League’s all-time greats at the position.

And despite playing collegiately at Oklahoma where he set the freshman rushing record with 1,925 yards during the 2004 season and earned All-American honors, he believes he could have made the leap from high school right to the NFL.

During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe‘s podcast, Peterson said that he believes he could have made the NFL right out of high school after he compared himself to the professionals during a visit to Cowboys Stadium.

“I remember being in the Cowboys locker room and looking at the RBs like: ‘I’m a little bigger than you, I know I’m faster, I just ran a 10.26 at state.’ And after my freshman year, that confirmed it,” he said.

Peterson just wrapped up his first season in the Motor City after carving out his career with the NFC North Division rival Minnesota Vikings, and later with the Washington Football Team.

He’s stated that while he wouldn’t mind a second season in Detroit, he would rather not be a part of a rebuilding situation.

In 2020, he racked up 604 yards on 156 attempts with seven touchdowns.
