Adrian Peterson’s replacement just became available for the Detroit Lions

Just prior to the start of the 2020 regular season, the Detroit Lions signed future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson to help solidify their running back stable that already included rookie D’Andre Swift and Kerryon Johnson.

Peterson began the season as the starter and he even ran for 93 yards on just 14 carries in the Lions Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears. He looked like he could end up being an extremely valuable signing by now-former Lions’ GM, Bob Quinn.

Unfortunately, Peterson faded quickly, and though he had some good moments over the next 15 games, he really started to look like he was an old man trying to play a young man’s sport. In fact, from Week 3 through Week 15, he averaged just 3.18 yards per carry on 128 carries.

Following the conclusion of the season, Peterson expressed some level of interest to re-sign with the Lions for the 2021 season but in my opinion, they should go in a different direction.

That direction just became available and his name is Mark Ingram.

According to Adam Schefter, Ingram will be released by the Baltimore Ravens, which means he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Ingram, who is 31, was a standout at Flint Northwestern High School before heading to Alabama, where he went on to win the Heisman Trophy.

During his last two seasons with the Ravens, Ingram carried the ball 274 times for 1,317 yards and 12 touchdowns and I believe he still has enough gas left in the tank to team up with D’Andre Swift to help solidify the Lions running game in 2021.

If I was Lions GM Brad Holmes, I would pick up the phone and call Mark Ingram to see if he is ready to come home.

Nation, would you like this move?
