News broke earlier this afternoon that Detroit Tigers 3B coach Chip Hale would be departing his position with Detroit to accept a job as head coach at the University of Arizona.
Tonight will mark his final game with the Tigers as his soon-to-be former team opens a 3-game set against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, TX. Prior to tonight’s game, manager A.J. Hinch announced that bench coach George Lombard will be taking over the duties of 3B until the All-Star break, which is Tuesday, July 13.
He’ll then be discussing the next moves with the team coaching staff with GM Al Avila.
