AJ Hinch declares the Detroit Tigers ‘fight the fight’ after comeback victory

The Detroit Tigers trailed the Oakland Athletics at one point during last night’s game at Comerica Park by a 6-3 score. But as their team moniker implies, they clawed their way back into the affair. Before the night was over, they’d leave the ballpark with an 8-6 win, ending their four game losing skid.

For manager AJ Hinch, the victory showed plenty of character from his players, and was another demonstration of the fight that he’s working to instill within them.

“I don’t talk a lot about character wins, but this is an example of a lot of things working for us,” Tigers manager AJ Hinch said. “We did some really good things … There’s so much in character wins when you’re playing against a good team. We’re gonna fight the fight. That’s been determined by this team a long time ago. I’m super-proud of these guys.

“Now we have a chance to win a series against a very, very good team across the way.”

It was slugger Miguel Cabrera, who earlier in the evening hit his 502nd career home run, who drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single. Meanwhile, the Tigers got home runs from Harold Castro and Akil Baddoo, while the latter drew his first walk since late July.

“The homer keeps us in the game and not having us feel like we’re in this rut where we’re falling behind,” Hinch said. “We did answer. And we answered with five innings in a row where we scored. Miggy with the big swing, obviously it’s a big jolt for us.”

The Tigers and Athletics wrap up their series later this afternoon.
