Detroit Tigers top pitching prospect continues to work out with the rest of the taxi-squad players in Toledo – meanwhile, fans in the Motor City have been left wondering why he hasn’t been called up to the big club.
GM Al Avila spoke today and shed some light on the issue, saying t
“Our main thing with Casey and really a lot of our young pitchers is we want to give them more time to build up pitch count, build up innings, work on their repertoire, and not just throw them in the fire in a shortened season.”

Considering that starter Matthew Boyd is currently sporting a ghastly 10.24 ERA combined with the fact that Mize isn’t getting any actual starts in Toledo, Avila’s comments may not sit well with Tigers fans. What do you think?
