Michigan Sports and Entertainment can confidently report that at this albeit EARLY point in the 2019 season, the Detroit Tigers have a healthier record than both the New York Yankees (3-4) AND the Boston Red Sox (2-7). Just sayin’. AND, they're on a 3-game win streak! I don’t think the team was predicted to do this, but ssssssshhh! Don’t tell them. It’s more fun this way. At 5-3, the Tigers are tied for first place with the Minnesota Twins atop the American League Central.

Niko Goodrum finds himself at the top of the team’s batting heap (and 20th overall in the AL), entering today’s game with a .318 average and a 1.074 OPS, followed by Jeimer Candelario (.242 avg, .598 OPS) and Nick Castellanos (.241 avg, .716 OPS). Not the names you expected to find there? Yeah, us either. And RHP Jordan Zimmerman is ranked fifth among American League pitchers. What the heck, guys?

Following a well-deserved day off on Friday, it’s back at it today against the Royals, who the Tigers beat on Thursday in the home opener, 5-4.

The Tigers will send Matt Moore (0-0, 0.00 ERA) against Jorge López (0-1, 7.20 ERA). Moore started his season off against the Blue Jays on March 31, fanning six and giving up zero runs in a no-decision contest (Tigers would take the game in 11 innings, 4-3). López started last Sunday against the White Sox, giving up four runs in five innings; Detroit last saw him in September, when he generously granted us seven runs in one inning.
