Mash the baseball.
Those three words are the primary reason the Detroit Tigers made 3B Spencer Torkelson the No. 1 selection in the 2020 MLB Draft on Wednesday night.
Torkelson was without a doubt the most MLB-ready power hitter in the draft and it was a no-brainer pick for Tigers GM Al Avila.
Another member of the Tigers organization who believes in Torkelson’s ability to mash the ball is Hall of Famer, Alan Trammell, who said he knew within minutes that Tork was something special.

Five minutes into watching the Arizona State slugger, Trammell told Tigers scouting director Scott Pleis, “Man, I like this guy.”
Pleis shared the story on Thursday, less than 24 hours after Detroit made Torkelson the No. 1 overall pick.
Trammell added that he does not think there is a stadium that can hold Torkelson.
“No ballpark’s gonna hold Tork. There’s no question about it,” Trammell said in the conference call with reporters.
“This is a good looking kid. I love the drive,” he said. “This is a nice addition to the Tigers organization.”
As far as switching from 1B to 3B, Trammell believes it is a compliment to Torkelson.
“That’s a compliment to Spencer. If it doesn’t work out, we know he can play first. But it helps the organization if he can,” Trammell added.
