No drama here, just football.
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes isn’t losing sleep over linebacker Alex Anzalone’s contract situation. While some eyebrows were raised when the team made adjustments to Anzalone’s deal this offseason, Holmes made it clear this is all part of the game.

Brad Holmes on Alex Anzalone Contract Situation
“It’s normal football business,” Holmes said during an interview on 97.1 The Ticket via Lions OnSI. “We value Anzalone highly. He’s been a four-time captain for us, he’s still a good player, and he played well last year.”
The 30-year-old linebacker is entering the final year of his deal. Earlier in training camp, he missed time with a hamstring injury, but has since returned to the field. In a bit of a compromise, the Lions guaranteed his 2025 salary and added incentives to his contract, a short-term solution to keep things moving smoothly.
Holmes Is Happy With The Outcome
Holmes acknowledged Anzalone is “getting a little longer in the tooth,” but said he’s been impressed with what he’s seen at camp so far. The most important part? The issue is behind them, at least for now.
“I’m sure Anzalone would tell you that he’s glad that it’s behind him for the immediate… so he can go out there, concentrate, and play football,” Holmes said. “And he’s looked good out there.”
With Jack Campbell developing and Malcolm Rodriguez pushing for snaps, Anzalone’s role will be watched closely. But for now, the veteran is back on the field, locked in, and ready to lead.
