If there was any doubt about Amon-Ra St. Brown’s place among the NFL’s elite receivers, Wednesday’s joint practice with the Miami Dolphins should erase it. The Detroit Lions star wideout put on an absolute clinic, torching Miami’s secondary all afternoon and turning in some of the most jaw-dropping catches of camp.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Cannot Be Stopped!
According to Al Karsten (@FootballGuy_Al), St. Brown beat Dolphins CB Jack Jones for two straight touchdowns in red zone drills, the first being a bread-basket, one-handed snag in the corner of the end zone. On the day, Karsten estimated that St. Brown would’ve been sitting at “12+ catches for 250+ yards,” with zero drops and constant separation in every drill.
And he wasn’t just making routine grabs. Will Burchfield (@burchie_kid) described one ridiculous sequence where St. Brown opened 1-on-1s with a 40-yard TD, followed that up with an over-the-shoulder sideline grab, then left a corner spinning with a filthy release before another catch. He capped it off with what Burchfield called “the catch of camp”, a one-handed grab pinned to the defender’s back for a touchdown that had teammates losing their minds.
Ben Raven (@BenjaminSRaven) added to the highlight reel, noting that St. Brown even had a David Tyree-style helmet pin touchdown in team drills. “Amon-Ra St. Brown doing whatever he wants out here today,” Raven wrote.
And while St. Brown was the headliner, his quarterback was no slouch either. Kory Woods (@KoryEWoods) summed it up perfectly: “Him and St. Brown are cooking with fish grease.”
It wasn’t just the passing game making noise. Al Karsten also reported that Lions All-Pro right tackle Penei Sewell was a brick wall in 1-on-1 pass rush drills, going a perfect four-for-four against Dolphins rookie pass-rush phenom Chop Robinson, including an emphatic shutdown of Robinson’s spin move on the final rep.
As for the Dolphins’ defense? c. isaiah smalls ii (@stclaudeii) may have put it best, St. Brown “straight up dominated” Miami’s corners… and did it all “really respectfully and with a smile.”

Bottom Line
If Wednesday was any indication, the Lions’ offense, with St. Brown leading the charge, is already in midseason form. And if you’re Miami, you’re leaving Allen Park knowing exactly why Detroit’s passing attack is one of the most dangerous in the NFL.
