With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected EDGE Aidan Hutchinson out of Michigan and the hope is that he will come in and immediately make life difficult for opposing quarterbacks.
But how good could Hutchinson possibly be during his rookie season with the Lions? Is it even a foregone conclusion that he will lead the team in sacks?
Well, one NFL analyst has some pretty high hopes for Aidan Hutchinson.
Analyst picks Aidan Hutchinson as Detroit Lions (non QB) MVP in 2022
In an article recently published on NFL.com, Kevin Patra names a non-quarterback Most Valuable Player for each NFL team and he went with Aidan Hutchinson for the Lions.
Here is what Patra has to say about Hutchinson potentially being the Lions’ non-QB MVP for the 2022 season
From NFL.com:
A rookie winning MVP? Laughable. Sure. Sure. Sure. But what if the homegrown talent dominates out of the gate, racking up sack after sack for a previously toothless Lions defense? If Detroit is to go worst-to-first in the NFC North, the defense must be better, and that starts with Hutchinson having one of the greatest seasons in club history after setting the single-season Michigan sack record. Suppose the edge rusher blasts past the rookie sack record of 14.5, approaches the 20-sack mark and plays like a man possessed as the Lions stun the football world in Year 2 of a rebuild. Then does it sound so ridiculous?
Ok, I see where Patra is going here, but Hutchinson setting a new rookie record for sacks and approaching 20 sacks in his first season seems a bit optimistic. Do I think Hutch can get double-digit sacks in his first season in the NFL? Sure. In fact, I think he will get around 10-12 sacks as a rookie. But will he break the rookie record? Probably not.
Nation, if you had to pick a non-quarterback Most Valuable Player for the Detroit Lions in 2022, who would you go with? Would Aidan Hutchinson get the nod?
