It’s a bit of a good news/bad news situation.
The bad news is that the Detroit Red Wings dropped Saturday night’s tilt against the San Jose Sharks in a shootout, 4-3.
The good news is that forward Andreas Athanasiou is starting to heat up after a slow start to the season. The speedy forward scored twice against the Sharks, including the game-tying goal with just under five minutes remaining in regulation.

He also nearly had himself a three-goal night when he hit the crossbar in the waning seconds of overtime.
Forward Taro Hirose scored his first of the season in the second period.

The Red Wings got 16 saves from goaltender Jimmy Howard, making his first appearance in six games. San Jose’s Martin Jones made 25 saves, while Logan Couture had three assists and Erik Karlsson and Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored.
