After a game filled with defensive plays and a great pitching match up, the Tigers take the field tonight against the New York Yankees.  Last night’s game was a great dual between CC Sabathia and Alfredo Simon, mixed in with some great defensive plays, and a odds game that panned out great for Detroit and … Read more

Detroit Tigers news and notes: Price and pace of play, historic start, & injury updates

The Tigers are getting another early season off day in this young season to date.  While I would much rather have these off days scheduled for later in the season, it does give our lights out pitching staff some rest to see all they have accomplished so far.  Four early season shut outs by the Tigers is an impressive feat, especially when three of them involve Shane Greene, two games, and Alfredo Simon, one game. Let’s take a look at some things going on with the Tigers on this Thursday evening.

On Deck: Detroit Tigers at Pittsburgh Pirates

Series Preview

The Detroit Tigers open up  a 3 game interleague series today against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  For the second straight series the Tigers are guest to another team’s home opener.  This Wednesday is also the celebration of Jackie Robinson Day where all the players from every team in baseball honor Mr. Robinson by wearing the number 42 jersey.  The Tigers come into the Pirates series firing on all cylinders, riding a season opening 6 game win steak.  The Tigers starting pitching and bullpen has had a great start to this young season, giving the Tigers hitters the opportunities to be patient at the plate.  A major downside to the Tigers playing in Pittsburgh, is the loss of the designated hitter, Victor Martinez.  Usually if V-Mart and Miguel Cabrera were 100% healthy coming into the season, the Tigers would have been able to keep V-Mart in the line up by having him play first and shifting Cabrera to third.  V-Mart will still be available for the pinch hit cameo during the series.

Tommy John surgery, first introduced in 1974, is now saving more careers than ever.  Each year in Spring Training we hear about another pitcher going under the knife to have TJ surgery, or a player coming back from TJ surgery.  This year Tigers fans are getting a first hand glimpse at how TJ can save … Read more

Tigers News and Notes: Tigers vs. Blue Jays, Injury updates, A new Don Kelly?!

The Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays today 6-4 to climb back above .500 at 4-3 in Grapefruit League play.  It was an exciting day on the base paths today, in what is hopefully a sign of things to come.  Anthony Gose hit a double and then stole third base today when the ball was thrown back to the pitcher.  Then when the pitcher threw the ball to third, there was an error resulting in Gose scoring.  It was a good sign seeing Alex Avila play well today hitting to the opposite field.

Should the Tigers make a move for Andre Ethier?

As Spring Training enters its third week the Dodgers still have an over-crowded outfield and are looking to move Andre Ethier.  Reports are that the Dodgers are willing to eat at least half of his 3 years and $56 million in remaining salary.  While I think that $28 million is still too much to pay … Read more
