Barry Sanders to get statue at Ford Field [Video]

Barry Sanders was the Detroit Lions' honorary team captain against the Dolphins, and Chris Spielman announced that a statue of Sanders will be erected outside of Ford Field in 2023.

When it comes to the best players ever to play for the Detroit Lions, there is no question about it, Barry Sanders is number one on the list. In 10 seasons with the Lions, Sanders rushed for a whopping 15,269 yards and scored 109 total touchdowns. On Sunday, against the Miami Dolphins, Sanders was the Lions’ honorary team captain, and at halftime, it was announced by Chris Spielman that a statue of Sanders will be erected outside of Ford Field in 2023.

Here is Chris Spielman announcing that Sanders will be getting an 8-foot bronze statue in front of Ford Field in 2023.

As you can see in the video below, the fans at Ford Field went crazy when the announcement was made that Sanders will be getting a statue in 2023.

“Detroit has been my home ever since I was drafted by the Lions in 1989,” Sanders said in an official statement. “This statue means the city will be my home forever, it’s surreal. There is no way that I can express my gratitude to the entire Ford family, my teammates, my coaches, the Lions front office, the media, and most of all to the fans.

“As I soak it all in and reflect on my career, I recognize what a tremendous honor this is.”
